I often get asked about all the adventures, outdoor activities, and new places I take my boys. What I don't get asked about often is the safety precautions I take when going. When packing for a day adventure I always pack extra snacks, drinks, sunscreen, and make sure I have tiny jackets in case the weather decides to trick us. One of the things that I think is most overlooked when it comes to getting ready for a day of adventure, yet probably is the most important, is the car seat. Proper car seat installation and proper car seat fit is so important in ensuring your child is going to be safe.
I recently teamed up with Hello Mamas and Safety First to try out the the Safety 1st Grow and Go EX Air 3 in 1 car seat; I knew it would be the perfect fit for our adventurous lifestyle. Bonus? They are letting me give 10 car seats away for review to mamas who enter this giveaway!
When the mailman dropped off the car seat I was so excited just by the box! It showed the pretty, new car seat and its sleek design, with beautiful grey and black coloring called Lithograph-I knew it would look great my car's leather seats...isn't funny the things we get excited about once we have kids? When I got the car seat out of the box and both my boys started to crawl into it it hit me that this car seat is one that is going to grow with them throughout their lives. With the 3 in 1 design this car seat was built to grow with my family and I had the option to choose if i wanted to use it with Boone (18 months) or Cooper (4) all due to the amazing design that grows with your child. I ultimately decided to try the car seat with Boone, since Cooper didn't mind his current one (which is also safety first, found here) while Boone cried in his old one often. Before installing the car seat I made sure to read the manual that came with it because proper installation is a key factor in ensuring your child's safety. The manual was very easy to read and understand which made the fitting and installation process for rear facing a breeze. When fitting Boone to the car seat my favorite feature was the adjustable headrest. All of the car seats I have owned previously have not been as user friendly and I had to completely undo all the straps and re thread them to the proper fitting area. The adjustable headrest makes it so much easier to fit your child not to mention it saves so much time. When installing the car seat I used the latch system which was very smooth and easy to tighten to the proper tightness.
During the everyday use of the car seat I have noticed features that I love! I loved how easy it was to tighten and loosen the harness, and I loved how smooth the buckle the button was to both close and open. I also noticed things that none of my other car seats have had; I really like the two reachable cup holders in the front that I am able to put both snacks and drinks in; this way I can keep myself safe by not having to unbuckle while my husband is driving to turn around and hand him things. One of my absolute favorite features was the little slots on each side of the car seat that holds the buckle as you are placing your child in the seat. This helps so you don't have to dig around their little tushes looking for the buckle. These holders reassure me to know that that Boone's little legs won't get burnt from hot buckles that can occur in the summer. Comfort is also a feature I look for when car seat shopping because we often take quite long to reach our end destination; When I felt the seats I could tell just by the cushions that it's comfort level was high. Cooper sat in it while it was still inside our home with which he responded "awwwee, so nice" and Boones' usual cries in the car turned into chit chats with his feet, which I can only assume means it has to be good. The cushions in the seat not only allow for comfort, but the reversible sides allow for it to be very practical for when messes happen, which if you know me and my boys then you know they will most definitely happen. I was able it switch the cushion around when Boone got a teething puff smeared on it; by switching it around I was able to prevent it from being to transferred to his clothing and I took note at how easy they could be removed if a spill happened that will take some time to dry out.
I have not yet had a car seat that I felt that my boys are safer in that meets all of my families needs. I am so happy to say that the Safety 1st Grow and Go EX Air 3-in-1 Car Seat is here to stay in our family. Now remember Safety first then adventure.
